ZIPPERED FLESH 2: “get it ASAP”
Barnes & Noble reader “RickardsWhite” has posted a review of ZIPPERED FLESH 2 (Smart Rhino Publications), edited by Weldon Burge:
This is one of the best multi-authored anthologies I have read this year. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I bought it, but by the time I was done I was pretty smitten and told my friends that I know love horror to get it ASAP. I think there was a story or two that didn’t quite grab me, but they were still enjoyable. There is a good mix of straight horror, realistic horror, sci-fi horror, humorous horror and ones that have a touch of the bizarre. I really loved Rick Hudson‘s apt twist on the Sherlock Holmes history and Michael Bailey has made me want to read more of his work with his great sci-fi horror story “Primal Tongue”. Christian A. Larsen brings a subtle yet effective story with “The Little Things” and Jonathan Templar had me laughing and wincing with “Baby Daddy”. Lisa Mannetti brings a haunting tale called “The Hunger Artist” while Bryan Hall blew me away with his insane “The Modern Adonis”. Christine Morgan brings some amazing visuals with “The Sun-Snake” and M.L. Roos‘ “After Darque” is a strange tale of underground clubs. And when it is all said and done, I know I will never forget L.L. Soares‘ “Seeds” which is creepy and well written, nor will I forget what I think was the the best of them all, Shaun Meeks‘ “Taut”. The realism, the squirm factor and the end stayed with me so much that I re-read the story after I finished the book.
The editor of this anthology, Weldon Burge did an amazing job and I look forward to seeing what else he puts together and hope it has the same flavors.
