FOR WHEN THE VEIL DROPS is “excellent”
Amazon reader LR21 has posted a review of FOR WHEN THE VEIL DROPS, featuring my short story, “724″.
When I bought this book, I intended to read it slowly, one story at a time. Instead I read the whole thing at once, went to sleep around 4 a.m. and was completely unbearable to everyone around me all the next day.
The highlight of this collection for me was “The Chopping Block” by Doug Murano. Reading this story was a terrifying experience. Rather than spell it all out for us readers, Mr. Murano does something even worse. He gets our minds to imagine all kinds of dark and appalling things that may or may not have happened. I had no idea the things I was capable of imagining until Mr. Murano led me down that path. When I was done reading, I had completely forgotten where I was. I was relieved to see that my house was still standing and that society hadn’t completely broken down.
We enjoy the horror genre because when done right, it’s like having an out-of-body experience. It’s a total escape. When we come back to ourselves, we can take much pleasure in the fact that our lives really aren’t that bad after all. FOR WHEN THE VEIL DROPS doesn’t disappoint. After reading this collection, I realize that things could be so much worse.
