Coming February 16 from Post Mortem Press.

What happens when you find out the house you grew up in is a private graveyard? Jared Dix is an awkward high school graduate who makes his first friend in a college student named Monica, who knows more about his house than he does: it’s where Al Capone wiped out the Cerutti Mob the evening of Easter in 1930.

The discovery is unsettling for Jared, but as he and Monica find out more details about the massacre, he learns what it feels like to be accepted, hoping beyond hope that their friendship might turn into something more. But when his family starts acting strangely, he starts to wonder if he’s imagining it, or if the killings that happened in his house have cast a longer shadow than he realized.

It’s an exciting time to be alive … or, in the case of the Ceruttis … an exciting time to be dead. Pre-order your copy of THE BLACKENING OF FLESH in ebook or trade paperback, and if you bring it to Capricon, Milwaukee Comic Con, or somewhere else on the festival and convention circuit, I’ll sign it for free (Kindles get signed in grease pencil).

Post Mortem Press took a flier on me when they published LOSING TOUCH in 2013, and they’re doing it again when THE BLACKENING OF FLESH is released next month. I’d love to see those titles on display in Los Angeles, Nashville, and Boston … and remember, even if you can’t donate … liking, tweeting, and sharing the Post Mortem’s IndieGoGo link goes a long way toward making this awesomeness happen.

Plenty of horror at Milwaukee Comic Con

Posted in News on January 17, 2016 by Christian
12366632_10153770990927389_522339098_n

Coming February 16 in paperback and Kindle from Post Mortem Press.

On Sunday, February 21, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH officially drops in the Dairy State at Milwaukee Comic Con. My upcoming novel is more horror than LOSING TOUCH, with about 75% more gangsters and 100% more ghosts, but like William Gaines would tell you, comic conventions aren’t all Spandex and capes.

Late night horror hosts are just as comfortable on the convention circuit as they are on your TV. In the tradition of Vampira, Ghoulardi, Elvira, and Svengoolie, Dr. Destruction has been hosting CRIMSON THEATER since 2001, and Deadgar Winter joined the game in 2009 with DEADGAR’S DARK COFFIN CLASSICS. They’ll both be there–in the flesh.

Horror fans who dress the part will want to visit the Do Bats Eat Cats? table for gothic jewelry and accessories, and over at Gothcraeft’s booth, you’ll find coffin trinket boxes, coasters, hair clips, candles, totes and other custom items. If you’re hunting for the genuine article, the Milwaukee Paranormal Conference will also have a presence.

Traditional comic fans will find plenty to enjoy, too. Pulp Culture Comics and Collectibles offers one of the largest collections of autographed comic books around, and Sutdog Comics specializes $1 Golden, Silver, and Bronze-Age comics. Meanwhile, URBAN LEGENDS creator Jeff Balke will be Sketch Coloring™. Bring him your black and white art, and he’ll custom color it for you while you wait.

Milwaukee Comic Con takes place on Sunday, February 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at American Serb Hall, 5101 W. Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee. Tickets are just $5 and kids 12 and under are free. Everyone who attends gets a free comic book at the door and are entered in the Everybody Wins Raffle. Who will win? Everybody.
