The past won’t stay buried.

Mighty Con returns to Madison this Sunday, but this time around, it’s at a much bigger venue: Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. There’s enough room there for all the comic book sellers, toys dealers, artists, and gamers that you’d expect, plus … a little space left over for me to meet some readers and sign copies of my books, including my latest novel, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH.

Of course, there will be lots of comic book dealers on hand, with great deals on silver, bronze, copper, and modern age comic books, limited edition prints, and maybe even that special comic that you’ve been looking for. No shipping, and you don’t have to hop from shop to shop since they’ll all be under one roof—but you’ll find more than comics at Mighty Con in Madison.

There’s also LEGOs, Star Wars memorabilia, posters, buttons, stickers, custom jewelry, and … Circuits & Sewing Needles is hosting a cash prize cosplay contest with both adults and kids categories. Gamers will have plenty to do, too. Play the all-day open Warhammer 40K tables with special terrain courtesy of HiveFX, and don’t forget the Heroclix tutorials and tournaments provided by TNT Comics.

While you’re there, pick up your copy of my novels THE BLACKENING OF FLESH, about a high school graduate who finds out his home is haunted by five gangsters, or LOSING TOUCH, about an out-of-work suburbanite who finds out he can walk through walls. I’ll also have copies of the horror anthology SHRIEKS AND SHIVERS, the steampunk-inspired anthology THE GHOST IS THE MACHINE, and the sci-fi anthology QUALIA NOUS, featuring “The Jaunt” by Stephen King.

Mighty Con is coming to Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison. Admission to Mighty Con is just $5, and kids 12 and under are free. Who knows what you might find just by showing up? There’s rumor of a free comic book for everyone who walks in the door and giveaways throughout the day while supplies last. So get there early, and get ready to have some fun at Mighty Con in Madison!

Mighty Con in Milwaukee was big time

Posted in News on February 22, 2016 by Christian

unnamed-8.jpgThe Milwaukee launch event for THE BLACKENING OF FLESH was a huge success. Mighty Con, presented by Geek Inc. Comics in Hanover Park, hosted the event at American Serb Hall, and it was all that. I met a lot of enthusiastic readers, sold a bunch of books, and got to bask in the collective nerdishness of the comic elite.

Check out The Joker and Harley Quinn (right), or the sale I totally closed (below), or the absolutely jam-packed dealer room (below that, even). The tables were full of comic books, toys, figurines, posters, t-shirts, video games, art, and collectibles of all shapes and sizes.

It was really pretty cool.

Geek Inc. Comics is putting on another show in a couple of weeks. On Sunday, March 6, head to Monona Terrace for Mighty Con in Madison. Tickets are just five bucks, and kids 12 or under are free. So get ready for dozens of comic book dealers, toys dealers, artists, gamers, and more, all under one roof, all on one day at Mighty Con in Madison.

Mighty Con has arrived in Milwaukee!

Posted in News on February 21, 2016 by Christian

Watcha doin’ today? It’s not Super Bowl Sunday. It’s not Valentine’s Day. It’s not even a President’s birthday. Any president’s birthday. It’s just a Sunday in February with nothing special to do … unless you’re into comics, books, video games, pop art and collectibles … and then there’s Mighty Con in Milwaukee.

Philo Barnhart will be there. Don’t know Philo Barnhart? You know his work. He’s animated such Disney classics as THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE SECRET OF NIMH, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. He’ll be selling original art prints and signing autographs. Maybe catch an “insider” story or two while you’re there.

If you love Svengoolie or Elvira, you’ll love Dr. Destruction. Since 2001, the Doc has been hosting CRIMSON THEATER in southeast Wisconsin, showcasing such horror stars as Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, and many, many more. If you’re a horror fan, come by and say hello to Dr. Destruction!

And of course, I’ll be signing copies of my brand new ghosts and gangsters novel, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH, my debut novel, LOSING TOUCH, about a suburban man who finds he can walk through walls, the anthology QUALIA NOUS, which features a story of mine (and one of Stephen King’s), and many, many more.

It’s just $5 to get in (kids 12 and under are free) and it’s easy to find. Mighty Con happens today at American Serb Hall, 5101 West Oklahoma Ave in Milwaukee from 10:30 to 4:30. Every attendee gets a free comic at the door, and then … you get inside.

Voice actors, comic artists, gamer stuff, collectibles, handmade jewelry and costuming, purveyors of gold and silver age comics–I mean, if you’ve got something better going on today, I want to hear about it.

If you want to find out what Capricon has to offer … today is your day. A Sunday badge is just $15 at the door, and once you’re in, make sure you stop by the Post Mortem Press table and pick up a copy of THE BLACKENING OF FLESH.

Don’t miss Saturday at Capricon 36

Posted in News on February 13, 2016 by Christian

Remember Saturday morning cartoons? Nothing beat cartoons to start the day with no school and no church, and maybe a French toast breakfast thrown in there after Loony Toons. Capricon 36 has Saturday morning cartoons … and that’s just to start the day.

Man, I miss my childhood.

There’s lightsaber making for kids, game development, discussion panels and plenty of filk. What’s filk? It’s different things to different people, but in general, its folk music with a science fiction or fantasy theme. Think “Noisy” Rhysling from “The Green Hills of Earth” by Robert Heinlein, and you’re more than halfway there.

And don’t forget to swing by the dealer room. I’ll be signing copies of my new novel, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH … so you can get it before it even ships from Amazon starting next week. I’ll also have copies of LOSING TOUCH. Just look for the Post Mortem Press table, and I’m bound to be somewhere nearby.

Saturday is always the biggest day of any con, and Saturday at Capricon 36 is no exception.

Available now, exclusively at Capricon 36!

If you love movies, then you’ll love Capricon 36, the official launch event for my new book, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH. Today, while I’m signing copies of my new ghosts and gangsters novel, you can enjoy three can’t-miss genre movies: GALAXY QUEST, THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN, and EXPELLED FROM PARADISE.

In GALAXY QUEST, Tim Allen stars as the Shatner-esque actor who once played a captain on a sci-fi TV series in the vein of STAR TREK. When an alien culture calls on him and his former co-stars for aid in their struggles against a conquering world, it’s up to the crew of the Protector to play the roles they were born to play. GALAXY QUEST screens today from 5:30 to 7:15.

Terry Gilliam’s THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN is a 1988 fantasy comedy based on the exploits of Hieronymus Karl Friedrich von Münchhausen (1720-1797), first fictionalized by Rudolf Erich Raspe in his 1785 book BARON MUNCHAUSEN’S NARRATIVE OF HIS MARVELOUS TRAVELS AND CAMPAIGNS IN RUSSIA. THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN screens tonight from 7:15 to 9:15.

Animation fans will love EXPELLED FROM PARADISE, a film about humans who have abandoned their bodies to live as data in a virtual reality aboard DEVA, a space station orbiting Earth. When a hacker interferes their existence, two agents on the planet’s surface make it their mission to neutralize the threat. EXPELLED FROM PARADISE screens tonight from 9:15 to 11:00.

And tomorrow, the late, great David Bowie plays the Goblin King in LABYRINTH. Jennifer Connolly also stars Sarah, a teenager on a quest to find her kidnapped infant brother in a fantastic, wending world populated by creatures provided by the Jim Henson’s creature workshop. LABYRINTH screens tomorrow afternoon from 4:30 to 6:00.

Come to Capricon 36 at the Westin North Shore Chicago, because it’s not just movies. There’s gaming, parties, and panels galore, and when you get a spare minute or two, check out the dealer room and pick up a signed copy of THE BLACKENING OF FLESH at the Post Mortem Press table.

Pre-Amazon availability at Capricon 36!

The Westin North Shore Chicago is again the site for Capricon, one of Chicago’s longest running science-fiction conventions, and this year, it’s the launch site for my new novel, THE BLACKENING OF FLESH, about an awkward high schooler who finds out that the gruesome murders that happened in his house more than 50 years earlier are having a strange influence on the present.

I’ll be signing copies of THE BLACKENING OF FLESH in the dealer room at the Post Mortem Press table. The dealer room will be open all four days of the con, but there are lots of other things to do while you’re there, like gaming, cosplay, and maybe sitting in on a panel discussion or two, like “Religion in SF & F”, “Star Wars Episode VII – So Was It A Trap?”, and “Classic Monsters”.

If you’re a spec-fic genre nerd like me, come on out to Capricon 36 at the Westin North Shore Chicago in Wheeling. It runs through Sunday and daily admission starts at $15, with a discount for admission to all four days. While you’re there, you can pick up paperback of THE BLACKENING OF FLESH before it even ships from Amazon, and hey … I’ll sign it for free.
